Got my soup, now time to get going!

I got my soup mix from Bev Breisinger.....

I vowed not to unwrap them until Bev got hers...except that I couldn't wait, so I ripped into the nicely wrapped package that she sent. Oooops! I jumped the gun and didn't take a picture! So I wrapped them up again, to show the cute packages and great quotes written on them.

Bev sent one amazing focal that she made out of polymer clay, two coordinating polymer beads, and a charm made from another coordinating bead. Is that not bountiful?  There are lots of small beads and spacers, even some bead caps and other metal pieces. A key with a message, some ear wires, two clasps... wow!

And can you see the theme in the colors of the focal and coordinating beads? Pittsburgh team colors. Not that I would have Known that if she hadn't told me... but cool nonetheless. I'm going to have loads of fun with this!

Thanks Bev!

Let the Cooking Begin!

Both Bead Soup mixes have arrived.

So now my Bead Soup Blog Party partner Jennifer Reno, and I have received our beads. Bead Soup is an online event hosted by Lori Anderson of Pretty Things. We are matched with a partner chosen by Lori, and exchange beads, focals and clasps for our partners to create with and make beautiful jewelry.

Here is what I sent to Jenny:

An old steel key that I altered with patina and glaze.

The Soup Mix (Not included; some bead strands I bought at the last minute!)
I saw that she has used jasper, so I kind of dropped some jasper on her!
Jasper Focal and some upcycled jasper beads.

Here is the soup mix she sent me:

Pretty package.

She included a lovely card.

Can't tell the players without a score card!

Wonderful variety of colors and textures!

I love all the colors. I don't usually use such a wide palette in one piece, so I see at least another little suite of pieces. Sweet!

And if you have read the post below, our focus on life photo prompt for this week was flowers. How perfect!

Bead Soup Blog Party: All Partnered Up!

It's Really, Really Here!

This is my second year participating in the Bead Soup Blog Party, hosted by the indomitable Lori Anderson.  You can read about the history of this event here.

I have been paired with a talented jewelry artist, Jennifer Reno, who blogs at: Musings of a Crafty Jenny. She also has an Etsy Shop, JenRen Jewelry, which gives her a leg up on me. I haven't been able to get mine together for months!

I made a effort to take a look at her style, then comb through my stash and choose items I hope she will like and be able to work with...but not too close to what she works with now. I invite Jennifer to do the same!

Just a little  tease!

Stop back in a week or two, to see what Jenny sent me,  and what I have sent to her.

Back to Jewelry

What's this all about?

Last summer I started this blog with the express purpose of joining the Bead Soup Blog Party and other blog hops and similar events. I was very immersed in my jewelry making, and I was soaking up styles, techniques and the work of amazing, talented, and generous people.

I participated in a craft show last summer, and sold more than I ever have at that show, and had a fine time selling at work, as I usually do. I began setting up my long-promised Etsy shop, and I made jewelry as usual.

And then around the first of the year, I stopped making jewelry. I have been exploring other art forms, but somehow I start very few jewelry projects, and haven't finished...anything. Hmmm. The Bead Soup Blog Party is coming along, and maybe that will get me going. In the meantime, I have been reviewing some things that I've made recently.

These earrings are a small example of what I have created over the years.

Memory Wire Bracelets.  These are made out of left over beads from other projects.

Pendant Necklaces that have been sold.

Pendant Necklaces that will be listed in my Etsy Shop.
There, now it looks like a jewelry blog!

Bead Soup Blog Party!

It's coming!

Hard to believe, it's almost time to sign up for the Bead Soup Blog Party. This past summer was my first, and I am so excited to be participating in this year's event. If you are not familiar with it, the Bead Soup Blog Party is a chance for anyone who makes jewelry to be matched by the generous and tireless Lori Anderson with another jewelry artist from somewhere in the world, and trade beads, clasps, and a focal piece to be used to create jewelry.

Next week the sign-ups begin. Click below to go over to Lori's Bead Soup page!
