An unexpected blog post.
Sally Russick sent us the phrase "Giving Thanks" as a photo prompt for this week's Focus on Life series,
As others have stated before, it's been a great experience participating in this photo blog experiment. And sometimes, it brings out things you would not have expected.
When pondering "Giving Thanks" I first decided to go with something traditional like my family, or more specifically my husband's health, which had been in question at this time last year. He is feeling fine now, and for that we are all very thankful.
But I have recently featured him in this blog, and he might not have wanted another picture illustrating some "random" concept so soon.
Like many people, I am thankful for so many things.... health, family, my career, living in a free country, the beautiful country side, loving pets, a house that manages to still be standing after about a hundred years or so, many many things.
So I decided to feature my sketch book. I have never kept a sketch book before, and I have been adding to this one at least once a week since the end of July. I have always been interested in art, I design jewelry, I do other crafts, and for most of my life I have thought that I could draw, but badly. So I decided that I could only improve by giving myself permission to try. I am so thankful I decided to do that. I am finding this an enjoyable journey. Click on a thumbnail to find out what others are thankful for.
So glad to hear about your hubby. That sounds like a great gift! And really enjoy seeing your drawing.... I am always a softy for kitty pics,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post and a gorgeous collage!
ReplyDeleteSo glad your hubby's feeling better and I just LOVE your sketchbook :)
You have lots to be thankful for. I'm so glad your husband is feeling fine. I love your sweet drawings. I need to get back to doing that again. Blessings to you and your husband.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post Beti. I think your sketchbook is a wonderful way to capture your creativity and expand upon it. My sister's an art teacher and a wonderful artist and I always laugh and say I cannot draw a straight line w/out a ruler and her response is "Good. That's what they're for." Then she tells me that we can do anything our hearts want if we set our minds to it and try (and practice) and I believe she is right - your drawings are beautiful and full of expression and I am happy that you are following your creative heart by doing this sketchbook. Hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanx for sharing your sketchbook Beti. I do not draw very well. Before beads I costumed dolls in 1800's clothing. That was my first attempt at drawing. My husband and sons would roll their eyes at me for saying "pause the tape please so I can draw a picture of that dress." Those experiences helped me draw better. Your sketchbook is great.
ReplyDeleteHappy that your hubby is healthier these day. I love your journal, I would never have the motivation to do something like that.
ReplyDeleteGreat collage what a neat sketch book, glad your husband is doing better.
ReplyDeleteI really MUST do this myself...as a teen and young adult I won prizes for my art..but at some point I seem to have lost that spark. I do believe it's like attaining Carnegie Hall....practise, practise, practise. Nice job on yours!
ReplyDeleteGreat collage and good news! I've started drawing, too. I need to keep at it to improve, but I do see glimmers of possibilities! Love the plant life!
ReplyDeletePractice makes perfect, good for you for starting!
