Focus on Life: Minimalist Silhouette

The Bare Essentials

This week's photo assignment on our Minimalist theme is Silhouette.  Sally Russick gave us some suggestions on how to use our cameras to create silhouettes of objects against a bright background, like the sky. I read them, but ran out of daylight to fiddle with my camera. Too bad I can't take a photography sabbatical.

Here is what I came up with:
Hummingbird Wind Chimes - and some icicles!

Not exactly a silhouette, but a nice contrast. Desaturated in Picmonkey.

My Favorite! Didn't have to do much....

Take a look at the other participants' masterpieces.

  1. Your favorite is also my favorite. Love all the birds in the tree and the starkness of it.

  2. Beautiful photos - I love the birds in the tree, but I also love the icicles - it's very rarely cold enough in the UK for anything that dramatic.

  3. What is the second picture... our icicles are gone the 30 mm of rain last week melted all the snow off our roof... which is good! The tree picture is great!

    1. The second picture is a line of culverts taking a small stream under someone's driveway. They look more round without the snow.

  8. I love the icicles. Ours are gone as our temperatures have been doing jumping jacks.

  9. I ran out of time fiddling too, I think a photography sabbatical is an excellent idea.
I love the last one, I can almost hear the birds chattering to each other.

  12. Taking a silhouette photo was more difficult than I thought it would be. You did good!

  14. I love your wind chimes. And the tree branches are perfect - that's the route I took as well. There's something so basic about their leafless limbs against the sky. Very pretty!
