Focus on life: Smile!

The smile post that almost wasn't.

This week did not start out well. Monday morning we decided to call the power company because we were having some trouble with our circuit breakers tripping, and other odd things.

The power company worker took a look at our meter panel, and unceremoniously cut off the power to the whole house. Not the result we were hoping for. Or expected.

For the greater part of the next three days, we were without power, water and, although we would not have needed it, heat. Not a lot of smiling going on here at that time.

When I thought about Sally Russick's assignment to "Give us a smile," I seriously considered not doing anything.

But, as you can see, our electrician and the power company finally got together, and this lovely new meter, meter pan, and wire mast were the result. Sometimes, the most ordinary things can make you smile.

Thanks to my daughter Sara, and husband Jim for posing with me for some goofy celebratory shots!

  1. Oh, I'm sure glad I wasn't in your shoes... and I understand how you wouldn't be too happy for those 3 days! Glad you have your power back (it does remind one how many things we take for granted!). Your smiles and goofy poses are adorable - thank you for sharing!

  8. I sympathize with you Beti. I was without power for 10 days earlier this year. Yes when the power comes back it is smile worthy.

  9. Hey - power is indeed a reason to smile. It is a necessary ingredient to night-time beading! I hope you didn't lose all the goodies in your freezer. Love the poses with the meter. What a cute family!

  10. Your photos certainly gave me a smile! I'm so glad you got your power back on. Three days is much too long to be without power!

  12. Oh wow - the things we take for granted on a daily basis - water and electric - yep, I wouldn't have been smiling at first either! I can completely understand your excitement and celebration when things got installed/fixed and back to 'normal'. My hubs always says, if **** hits the fan and we're with out power and water, the thing I will miss most are hot showers (and drinking water!). I think I would have to agree! I love your 'smiles' and your collage - awesome for this week's post!

  13. We would loose our water too. I could live without eletricity for 3 days... maybe (frustrations would be taken out on mashing coffee beans with a hammer) but the lack of water is the thing that would get me!
